He’s just so happy to see his babies again
Anyway, so I set up an actual donation page on this site for people who donate to my ko-fi account. When you donate it emails you a link and a password to my new page, and this morning I added five advance pages to that page if you wanna read ahead a bunch of pages! (well 4 because one of them is this page, but in black and white).
Gonna be doing that on the regular when I can, I do try to work on pages in batches.
I love the bashful way in which he says he’s a fungus lich. “It’s not a big deal, I’m just a little bit undead now, you know how things go. Nothing worth talking about, really.”
I guess you could say he’s a lich-en.
I have komm hier to kick arsch and chew bubblegum, but ich habe kein bubblegum, wa?
Frank seems to be all “shame on you”. That is quite lovely.
what is this wa? i would say “na” which is kind of like “eh”, at least in the part of germany i was in
unless wa is like “wahr” which is like “true”
but you wouldnt really use “wahr” like that afaik
you could also say “nej” which sounds like “nay” and means “no” – like “you’re my cousin’s sister, no?”
source: work in german factories and kitchens. very much not highbrow deutsch :)
it’s an east berlin thing. Less common now than it used to be, though I hear a lot of hipsters have taken to affecting it, which is pretty funny.
“Wa” is actually also still used (unironically, I may add) by all age groups in the Siegerland area, but of course slightly more by the elderly. And it’s used exactly the way you’ve been using it, too. Sorry for rambling but I’m so excited to see a character say it!
oh wow that’s interesting. I appreciate all rambles that tell me something new.
“Wa” is simply a part of the Berlin idiom of the german language. Nothing “east” or “hipster” about it, people just tend to catch it when living in Berlin for a while. Usage is kind of like “, right?” or “, isn’t it?” in the english language.
Strange, right? –> Komisch, wa?
yeah I know that much. I was just reading about how berlinerisch itself was falling out of usage but is regaining popularity again, I found that interesting. But I’ve never been there so all I have to go on is what people write about it.
Opa is gonna do someone a heckin’.
So I guess this mean Eli is an undead too.
he’s not, he’s green for a different more algae related reason
Well, they wanted his attention. He wiped out an entire city because he was depressed. What you think he’s gonna do if you get him mad? Yes, threaten and bully the guy that made human weapons and a zombie fungi plague. That’s the guy you want to piss off and strong arm/manipulate into working for you. Nothing bad could come of him being disgruntled or holding a grudge. Seriously.
Your comment made me google “What could go wrong?”. I have less faith in humanity now.

Is undead supposed to be an adjective? If so the german is slightly wrong :)
what is the correct one, then? Because I’m looking it up and it’s looking like it should be untoter to me… But I’m not good at grammar even in english, so.
The adjective would be “untot”. “Untoter” is either the noun or the comparative. “untot, untoter, am untotesten” –> “undead, more undead, the most undead”.
So … either “untot” or “Ein Untoter” would be right, depending on Opas view of himself ;)
And btw, I really like the extra care you take to give him a plausible german accent. Very often people just take a few german words out of context and the result is … uh … less than perfect.
I do try. I should just take some new lessons. then I can go back and read my old pages and be like ‘oh no. oh nooo.’
So, if Eli does the slime thing, was he the one responsible for that mess James and Delia dealt with on their first field mission? Huh.
Grandpa gives me a heavy mad scientist Austin Powers vibe, I love it- and he’s German! Like the Medicfrom TF2. even better. All of my favorite people rolled into one amazing fungi psycho.
Man, and here I thought *my* family was fucked up.
fwiw, if you ever do go to Berlin, ride the subway between the old West to the old East. If you’re a fan of creepy, that will set your teeth on edge.
