He really did change. His lumpy, round face has changed in this sinister, big-nosed cracked thing. I can’t even discribe it, but the change is lovely, only his nose is a bit more squarish here. Lovely anyway.
It seems to me like much more changed that the sudden addition of color. The art style seemed to change as well… very suddenly going from cartoonist simplicity to heavily detailed complexity.
perhaps it’s just in my head. But it makes me wonder if the slow refinement from cartoonishness to semi-anatomically correct macabre-ness is a really a result of the artist(s) getting better or if it was planned that way to match up with what amounts to the ultimate destruction of steins goofy inner child (which was perhaps the one thing keeping him in colossal douche bag territory rather than irredeemable monster territory).
Heh, regardless… seems like its gonna be all down hill from here kiddies.
I really enjoyed that you placed that here. It really IS a nice comparison to see him from the end of the prison events to then see him reacting to the horrors of the explosion.
I try not to second guess an author in the plot of his story. All I can say about this delightfully devious comic, is to quote Lewis Carroll. “curiousier and curiousier”.

I’m still having trouble accepting Schtein Whose Head Isn’t Shaped Like A Bean.
actually I just went back into the archives to look at some of the old stuff (no idea why) and found this page: http://www.stringtheorycomic.com/comics/chapterone/page-forty-two/

What am i seeing…he left the prison…and now?
this is an epilogue to the events that brought him to the prison. it’s sort of tragic to see this now, to see how much he’s changed.

I love how the frame is slowly breaking, showing how his world is shattering around him. Love your style, as always. :)
Yay, more trauma face. D:
D: Y’know, I’m listening to Exile Vilify by The National right now.
It fits so well…
:( Schtein… quit breaking my heart.
