Ooooof, the first part was sweet. Him showing, and expressing, his concern for her home life was very nice and awkward, very realistic . However, when he tries to push his concern relating to his home life with his mother and try to conflate it with his lack of a father and alluding to it being the reason he was not in her life just killed all that good will and momentum to have a civil conversation out the window. ♂️
Damn it Doc. you could give so many better reasons than that! Hell, take responsibility for once instead of shifting all the blame like you usually do
His daughter has a reasonable reaction to that, though I have hope he can somewhat smooth things over, enough to not have her enraged just mad at him.
In my infinite wisdom I chose to try out emojis but it seams most were removed upon posting my comment.
And my male facepalm emoji resulted in the male gender symbol?!?!
huh, that’s weird, I wonder why that happened. I’m a big weirdo who hates emojis I may have killed them in my site or something a while back and just don’t remember. I wouldn’t put it past me.
Things like “male facepalm” are actually encoded as three characters [facepalm] [invisible joining character] [male symbol]. The application’s rendering library then can render those all separately or replace the trio with a single image.
If the facepalm character gets stripped out, though, you’re just left with the invisible joining character and the male symbol. :-P
Hm, what would ‘better’ have been? Pen pals from prison? Need to reread again. Such a great story
oh he had plenty of time and opportunities to be in her life before prison
he’s such a doink (affectionate)
That’s quite an uncomfortable hand wringing he’s doing in panel #7. Took me a little while to figure it out!
uh oh I’ve got weird hands. I use my own for reference. oh dear

Thank you! Glad someone had an answer to it.
At least Opa Schtein is nice and cares about children. (whistles innocently)
That’s good, right? Right?
He loves (experimenting on) children! He’s a great caretaker!
