chapter 9, page 16
he doesn’t sound EXACTLY like Dr. Teeth but, look, if you don’t want to sound like you’ve been gargling switch blades then don’t start smoking in your teens.

Doctor! You don’t touch your face with those gloves! Those are for touching dirty things!
what if his face is the dirty thing
I have noticed that the people who most strongly fear germs are not necessarily the people who are the most advertant about protecting themselves.
Then they feel so betrayed: “HOW did this HAPPEN when I was being so CAREFUL!”
Nice to see Toronto didn’t get hit during the nuclear war in this world so Jim Henson could survive to make his iconic work, although I’m betting the focus of the humor and the kinds of guests would have been different.
I didn’t bother to look up where he was from, but yeah no, Toronto is fine. It’s mostly the west coast that’s been nuked in the comic. Sorry Vancouver!
I know that this is supposed to be if the Cuban Missile Crisis had gone pear shaped, but the amount of nuking that was actually done seems implausibly restrained. Seems more likely that something similar to what happened in “Failsafe” occurred, a screwup nuke followed by an appeasement self nuke, only more then one each in this case, more than one of the bombers escaped, so we had to hurt ourselves several times.
I’d make the map of where all the nukes fell public but I feel like keepin’ it vague is better. But there’s a reason my comic occasionally refers to DC as NDC. Self nuke? That’s insane. Noooo this world is based off the game map of what do we do, what does russia do in response, and Kennedy didn’t wanna airbomb but everyone else did and he lost that argument instead of winning it and doing the blockade. Luckily (?) Russia hadn’t been able to assemble all of the warheads in Cuba just yet before the western side of Cuba was bombed to hell and their intercontinental missiles in 1962 were extremely lacking hence the appearance of “restraint”. More like… they just couldn’t without Cuba. I forget the exact numbers of missiles but we had SOOOOOO many more than them it was stupid. Secretary of Defense MacNamara did not give a shit about Cuba’s missiles and he was probably right not to. Drop in the bucket.
So “A Canticle For Leibowitz” was way too pessimistic in your opinion, at least for the late 50s early 60s? Totally plausible if nukes fell by 1980, however.
By the way,Old Man Schtein, why’d he never settle in Israel and take a job with Mossad? Israel must have been on their own for years while America rebuilt, they’d have needed all the talent they could muster to fend off surrounding Arab states without that help.
America just Paid more?
So long as you got rid of CA, I’ll be happy. NY can be next.
yeah the red hot chili peppers don’t exist in my comic, THAT WAS VERY IMPORTANT
I deeply love this comment.
“Today I met my father and he’s a criminal muppet.”
Hey, she’s a cool teenager, she knows who Alice Cooper was!
she likes horror and she likes rock, of course she does
IF Cooper survived, I’m betting he’d have been motivated to become a preacher like his dad, to bring hope to the survivors.
She’d have to have others to inspire her fashions.
nah. he’s still pretty much the same guy. bring hope to survivors. lol. Alice Cooper? yeah right. He’s probably even more cynical and apolitical, somehow, if that’s even possible.
Well you’ve just made me go back over all my favorite bits with this new information.
I don’t know whether to be amused or betrayed.
Schtein’s increasingly desperate facial expressions… XD
Alice doesn’t seem impressed. But then, she thinks Herville is just some loser ex-convict, not a supervillain-on-his-origin-story.
Doc’s grand pappy: “Imbecile! Is a father one with no memories of das kinder’s childhood?”
Doc’s hands: start smoking.
Doc’s grand pappy: “No matter. Is not too late for shared memories, da?”
Dr. Herville Schtein and the Electric Mayhem. Sounds right.
And may I say I just love those backgrounds.
Same! I’m a big fan of the way they set the mood for individual frames or scenes.
It‘s a really clever way of adding to the character interactions! :D
Heh, she could have answered her own question by taking a closer look in the mirror. Those are some *good* sniffers on both of them. :p
Man, I‘m so glad this story finally continues! I‘ve found myself thinking about all these characters pretty regularly these last years. ^^
I hope life has been treating you with more kindness lately, Mr Grundy.
