Is that the same as hold onto your butts? O: …but oh my god , this is so beautiful :DDDD -might have to snag this as her new wallpaper srry Thomas Jefferson-
First glance I thought this was some kind of trippy flashback showing Doc’s progression into adulthood. Then I paged back and realized how close his top-right pose is to the last panel on the last page… consider these pants firmly gripped
HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER. My pants.. may not be sufficiently gripped. I had a feeling those strange spores might’ve held some sort of anti-aging property (if that’s what this page is hinting at), since Orville is pretty dang up-n-at-em for an old fellow.
Anti-aging does not explain his eye’s changing back to how they were. I’m guessing some type of Hallucinogen, or possibly something that messes with the mind.
Ok, I have a pretty bizzare theory. Herv’s childhood is represented by the red “veins”, and how much it’s affected his adult life. As a young adult he was completely constricted by it, then less later, but enough to still be bothered by it. Still, it’s just a theory. :/
Personally I would interpret the red ribbon as something similar to his Zeal; his attachment to his work, his willingness to do science. One might even suggest it is representative of his Chutzpah, because I am sure I am not the only one to have noticed that our good Doctor has become far more willing to do what he is told as of late. One could also submit that this is a visual metaphor for the Doc’s ‘condition’. Being introduced to in in childhood, caught in it’s vortex and working madly, then his eventual slipping back to ‘normalcy’
Which if that is the case, begs the question:
Exactly what did his grandfather DO to him?
The “ribbon” or “veins” look like neurons to me. I interpreted them as symbolic of Doc’s neurosis/the fact this page is taking place within his mind, and I’m guessing that the next couple pages will delve into a flashback or two. Just a guess! But gosh, is this a fascinating page! I love it when artists deviate from normal panelling.

Who saw that one coming? Really. I don’t even know if Mr. Grundy saw that one coming, and he knows a lot about this comic.
Also, omgbeautiful. My pants are held on to so very tight.
Well okay then, belt engaged, suspenders engaged, fly buttoned, zipper zipped. Pants are held on as securely as I can manage.
[Red Miles]
I guess there really is no escape
Ahahahahahahah!

Doesn’t explain the clothing either. I’m pretty sure anti-aging does not work on the clothing you’ve worn.
I want this page as a poster cuz damn it turned out great,
…too late
I’m wearing a skirt, but it’s probably best for me to hold on anyway because my mind is already blown.
What the frog?! Not expected at all!
oh dang this is cool
Oh dear, regressing our good doctor?
I do wonder what Opa did to little Herville.
BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN
Yeah, what does it mean???

Nope. Sorry. The pants are off and gone. Blown away by the force of this page.
I was not at all expecting this? But it is amazing and I AM INTRIGUED. Keep up the phenomenal work.
