well if the bit where he tried to strangle his mom wasn’t a clue, yea rough childhood. um derp is he also a mutant of some sort? or is this like bring your kid to work day?
Whew, I had to go back and re-read a bunch of pages just now to make sure I never contradicted myself. Scary!
Anyway, his age that his dad killed himself has never been stated in the comic. If I said it elsewhere it doesn’t matter. It’s not canon until it’s in the comic. C:
Both Dr. Schtein and Phineas insinuated he was young by talking about early memories, but ummm… well, I don’t wanna spoil nothin’, so just wait a couple pages. :V
Dr. Schtein in the flash back with his mother did say that the only memory of his father was seeing his dead body after he hung himself- also indicating childhood memories. But…seeing how the Doc’s memory is selective and jacked up- it could have happened a few years ago before that for all we could tell.
Ooh, yet more revelations of childhood trauma. This never gets old!
Also, I’m pretty sure the way he’s pinching himself is not a good sign for his mental health. Of course, his seeming disassociation doesn’t bode well either.
I love this comic. :) It’s one of my favorites ever. Sure, I’m like everyone else here and I check it every day and feel frustrated when it’s not on time, but Grundy needs to take his time to give us a GREAT, free comic. So long as he writes it, I will follow. Thank you, Beck.
I love your characterizatiom Mr Grundy! You portray traumas and problems a lot more realistically than most writers do; I’m glad that there’s someone who gets what having a bad childhood can do to some people. It’s really refreshing to see characters who react in a complex way like Schtein does!
Um, on a side note, of what ethnicity are Kevin and James? I can’t really tell and I’d sort of like to know :P
What if pinching himself is just the thing he does to remind himself of home? Sadly, many kids still want to be with their abusers just because that’s all they’ve known.
i started this yesterday and here i am =3
this must take place before the extremely sensitive hands thing? I don’t know why i think vulcan when he mentioned that (\/)
It’s Porky Minch!
Er, Schtein. Probably.
Is that schtein when he was a kid?
Well, that’s awful nice to say right in front of him. So odd to see a young Schtein though!
He was young once! Maybe!
Well, yeah. I hoped he didn’t just spawn out of nowhere, but I never thought much of it.
Whoa…Schtein (which is who I’m guessing that is) looks pretty rough as a kid.
I sense some childhood trauma buildin’ up, here!

I forget, what age was he when he saw his dad kill himself? (or is that yet to be revealed?)
IIRC he was very young, younger than this. Don’t remember the exact age.

Poor kid. Looks like he needs a hug from someone who actually doesn’t want to beat the crap out of him.
He looks…adorable as a kid. Well, adorable and creepy.
Adorably creepy = Adorepy
Aww Doc, you’re so adorably creepy as a kid. He looks like he needs a hug. Strange to see him as a blond with long hair though.
Awww … please pull a straight razor and dive on one of ’em, pleeeeeeeease!

oh jeez, now why didnt these guys recognise each other back in chapter 1! The only difference is they grew older… XD
Man I don’t recognize people I saw as little kids. I barely remember what they looked like as kids. XD
me neither. Then again, I barely remember being a kid! Also Dr. Schtein is like 6 or so here. Hard to remember things from that age in general!
Aw, he looks so sad… I wanna hug him and tell him everything’s gonna be alright. :c
That would be a dirty lie Mizo

African American.
Poor kid, let’s play some games. What games do you like?
Creepy?
Why? He’s just sad.
I wonder if this is pre-mysophobia.
is that a young schtein there? :D
Oh man, the noise I just made…
